This is a petite handmade fused glass mushroom lamp with earthy tones and a leafy top.
The design
I started out by cutting circles out of 2 sheets of glass for the circular top. Then I add design elements — glass that I pulled using a torch to create delicate branches and leaves. The leaves are a sparkly deep green. Then all layers are fused into one piece over a period of 12 hours. This is followed by a second firing to shape it into the domed bell.
The stem
The stem is a recycled bottle that I cut, ground and polished, sandblasted, and finally annealed in my kiln for added durability. I then added a light glaze for easy cleaning (damp cloth) and to reduce fingerprints on the sandblasted surface. This stem is tall and slender. The lamp lights up the entire stem.
The light
This lamp comes with a compact LED nightlight-sized lamp that fits inside of the stem. If you prefer to place this mushroom in a garden space or have a lamp of your own that you would prefer to use, you can select the ‘no light’ option to receive the mushroom only.
Additional details
This mushroom is one piece. The top and stem have been bonded with clear silicone. To learn more about the creation of glass mushrooms, please see this blog post – behind the handmade scenes. The first two photos show the front and back of this lamp.
