This is a handmade fused glass mushroom lamp, with white, lavender and iridescent glass.
The design
I started out by cutting circles out of 2 sheets of glass for the circular top. This petite mushroom has a milky white top with a lavender ‘star’ stretching over the top. I have added small pieces of the same lavender glass as ‘raindrops’ intermixed with iridescent droplets for lots of subtle sparkles.
Then all layers are fused into one piece over a period of 12 hours. This is followed by a second firing to shape it into the domed bell.
The stem
The stem is a recycled bottle that I cut, ground and polished, sandblasted, then annealed in my kiln for added durability. I cut a small hole on the back of the lamp base (second photo) for the cord. Finally, I added a light glaze for easy cleaning with a damp cloth and to reduce fingerprints on the sandblasted surface.
The light
This lamp comes with a compact LED night light size lamp that fits inside of the stem. If you prefer to place this mushroom in a garden space or have a lamp of your own that you would prefer to use, you can select the ‘no light’ option to receive the mushroom only.
Additional details
This mushroom is one piece. The top and stem have been bonded with clear silicone. To learn more about the creation of glass mushrooms, please see this blog post – behind the handmade scenes. The first two photos show the front and back of this lamp.
