Blowing Bubbles

December 6, 2019
Back in October, I headed over to Seattle for the first-ever Refract event. It was a showcase of everything GLASS that Seattle has to offer. It sounded wonderful, but I almost didn’t go. All of the usual reasons — it is the busy time of year for a small vendor like me, I wondered if it wasn’t worth the trip and time, yadda, yadda, and yadda.

I am happy to report that I was so wrong! Refract Seattle was beyond amazing! Wow. I couldn’t believe it was the first-ever event. It was a jam-packed 4 days of glass, glass, glass. I loved every minute of it.

Here are some of my Instagram post/stories about what I was seeing at the events.

Inspiration overload

I say ‘overload’ but I mean that in the best possible way. Glass overload is always a good thing. ?

After watching literally hours of glassblowing by the pros, I thought I would try some glass blowing, too. Even if my set up is micro compared to the big pipes and furnaces.

Melting glass and blowing it into a bubble is both mesmerizing and magic.

I couldn’t stop…

They sit here on my studio table. They are fun to fun my fingers and think about the possibilities. I imagine that I will have some more ‘experiment time’ in January to play!
